Susan Dickinson (1832–1915) was an American poet and a close friend of renowned poet Emily Dickinson. Born Susan Huntington Gilbert, she married Emily’s brother Austin Dickinson in 1856. Susan played a significant role in Emily’s life, fostering a deep and emotionally complex friendship. Their connection extended beyond familial ties, and Susan is often considered Emily’s confidante and possibly a romantic interest, although the nature of their relationship remains a subject of scholarly debate.
